How to play Dominoes

Start Dominoes by looking at the playing area and its controls. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Look at what changes after your first action. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

A careful first round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
